Viaja y estudia de manera autodidacta. Más tarde rea- liza la Maestría en Arte en el Instituto Superior de Arte, Cuba (1999-2001). Su trabajo ha sido expuesto de manera individual y colectiva tanto a nivel na- cional como internacional. Ha recibido diversos reconocimientos y premios entre ellos la Beca Jóvenes Creadores del FONCA 2003-2004, el premio VSC MexAm Fellowship 2006-2007 y el pri-
(ChIhuAhuA, 1971). Rocío Sáenz first delved into the arts at the age of eight in her home- town, absorbing problems with authority and reaffirming her boredom with the rules of the prairie. She traveled and studied of her own accord and later graduated with a Master’s Degree in Art from the University of Arts of Cuba (ISA), 99-01. Her work has been exhi- bited individually and collectively both in Mexico and abroad. She has received a num- ber of awards and recognitions including the Young Creators Scholarship from FONCA in 03-04, the VSC MexAm Fellowship in 06-07 and first place at the II Pedro Coronel Biennial

of Painting. In 2009 Jannis Kounellis selected her to participate in a workshop organized by the Marcelino Botín Foundation in Spain. Her daughter was born in 2011 and meant she would no longer be accepted to artistic residency programs. In 2014 the SFAI (San Francisco Art Institute) opened a Familiy Re- sidence and Sáenz received a grant. She won the Chihuahua Prize 2019. In 2020 she repre- sented Mexico at the III Biennial of Asuncion (BIA) in Paraguay and was part of the Julio Castillo Biennial. During the pandemic she has worked from home with the creative re- sources that confinement and disease bring.
